4 Signs Of A Roach Infestation

by Lance Burke

Cockroaches are insects that prefer to move around at night. Besides that, you can spot them in dark and moist places. For instance, they hide under the sink, in the pantry, and in the cabinetry in the kitchen. Roaches are not only hazardous but also embarrassing to have. That said, the quicker you notice these insects, the better your chances of exterminating them. Here are a few signs to look out for when examining if your home is a roach-infested zone.

Spotting Roach Droppings

Roach droppings vary in size and color depending on the type of cockroach. Some of their droppings resemble coffee grounds, rice grains, or pepper specs. You can run an inspection in your space to try and spot any roach droppings. Start with cabinets, countertops, and behind electronic kitchen appliances. The appearance of a significant amount of droppings is a clear sign of roaches on your premises.

At this point, you need to immediately contact a pest control company to aid in eliminating these insects. In the meantime, you could clean the feces by yourself. Wash the contaminated surface using a disinfectant to kill bacteria and other harmful microorganisms.

Smelling a Musty Odor

These insects produce a pungent smell that gets stronger as they increase in number. Even so, a single roach can produce this awful odor by itself. If the smell is more concentrated in the kitchen, it could spread to open foods and alter their taste. If you are sensitive to bacteria, you may experience tightness while breathing. Other symptoms are trouble catching your breath, a stuffy nose, and eye itchiness. Engage a pest control company instantly to avoid such issues.

Noticing Egg Casings

One of the major signs of roaches in your house is the presence of oothecae. This is a brown casing left after the roach hatches. As cockroaches do not lay a single egg but a set, the eggs stay in this casing until they are ready to hatch. Once you see one or many oothecae, it is obvious that you have unwanted company in your household.

However, it is possible to find oothecae with the eggs still intact. If the mother does not carry her eggs wherever she goes, she hides them in dark places. So could check behind furniture, cracks in the walls, and other tight areas for these casings.

If you detect a roach infestation, take immediate action. Start by cleaning and disinfecting surfaces and fixtures around the house, then call a pest control service to find a lasting solution.
