Cockroaches In Your Kitchen? How You Get Them, And How To Get Them Out

by Lance Burke

If you have seen even one cockroach in your kitchen, you likely have a lot more. The most common cockroach you find in homes is the German cockroach. They are dangerous as they multiply quickly and you can end up with thousands of these insects if the problem is not taken care of. Keep reading to learn of ways you can get these insects, as well as what you can do to get them out.

How You Get Cockroaches

Cockroaches can get into your home in many ways. If you visit someone that has cockroaches in their home, you may have one get into your belongings and then bring it home. This could be on bags, backpacks, inside suitcases, and more. If you purchase potatoes at a store, cockroaches could be hiding in the bag.

Cockroaches can crawl inside your home in a variety of ways. They can crawl through cracks or small holes. Look around windows and doors for any type of openings. Look around baseboards, electric sockets, and throughout your entire home for openings. You also need to repair any plumbing leaks you have in your home even if the leak is very small.

Get Them Out

Because cockroaches multiply quickly your home can become infested with them. Because of this, you should hire a pest control company. There are also things you can do on your own.

Wipe down kitchen counters every night before you go to bed. Sweep the floor to remove the crumbs the cockroaches will eat. Wipe down the stovetop, kitchen table, and anywhere else food crumbs may drop. Cockroaches will eat just about anything, and even small crumbs are enough for them to survive.

A pest control company has a variety of ways to determine where cockroaches are hiding and how many you have. There are sticky traps they may set out in different areas. When the cockroaches step on the trap, they get stuck.

The pest control contractor sprays a pesticide in your home to kill cockroaches. This is sprayed outside the cabinets, as well as in cabinets, behind refrigerators, behind stoves, etc. Ask the contractor if they will come back in a couple of weeks to inspect your home. This will ensure all cockroaches are gone. There are many pest control companies that set up a schedule to spray your home every year to prevent all kinds of insects.
